The subjects that are compulsory at O levels are;
- English Language
- Pakistan Studies
In addition, subjects that are compulsory in Grade 9 are;
- English Literature
- World Affairs
The elective subject choices available to class 9 are broken into three groups:
- Group 1: Physics or Sociology or Environmental Management
- Group 2: Chemistry or Art or Economics
- Group 3: Biology or Additional Maths or ICT
At the end of class 9, students may drop any two non-compulsory subjects.
Students are required to choose one subject from each group given above, while English Literature, World Affairs and Global Perspectives remain free floating subjects that can be taken with any combination.
If Art, ICT and Add Maths clash with another subject a student wishes to take, extra classes may be made available after school if at least 12 students wish to take the respective subject. Students may not be allowed to drop out of after school classes once they have been scheduled.
As stated above, there needs to be a minimum number of 12 students for any after school class. If the number drops below 10, at a later stage in class 9, the school may discontinue the facility.
Many colleges require student transcripts from class 9 onwards, so it is very important that students approach these three years with seriousness and hard work.
Class 9 to 11
It is important for students to sit for at least 8 subjects for their O levels (5 compulsory and 3 optional) in order to be eligible for the equivalency certificate from the Inter-Board Committee of Chairman (IBCC).
Students with foreign passports can drop Pakistan Studies, Urdu and Islamiat BUT we do not encourage it. It is still compulsory for these students to attend classes even if they will not be sitting for the O Levels in these subjects.
- ADD MATHS
- ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGEMENT
- GLOBAL PERSPECTIVES
- ENGLISH LANG. & LITERATURE
- URDU A & URDU B
- PAKISTAN STUDIES
- WORLD AFFAIRS
Subject Pre-Requisites and Requirements:
To be able to take any of the three pure sciences it is important for the student to have achieved a minimum average score of 65% while for Additional Maths the requirement is an average score of 75% through Grade 8.
It is recommended for students opting for O level Biology, to also take O level Chemistry, as there is an element of biochemistry which needs an understanding of chemistry throughout the course.
Requirement for Art
The Art teacher will be consulted as to the artistic ability of the student before the student is allowed to take Art as a subject.
Please have a look at Student Resources for additional information and questionnaires to help with subject choices.
