Science and Math Society
The SciMath Society has served as the pioneer for bridging the distance between academic classroom learning and real-world application in 55 Main. Over the years, we have trained our focus on providing students a platform to explore their interests in the scientific and mathematical fields through an array of intra-school and external activities. The SciMath Society has sent teams to prestigious local olympiads, bringing home a number of awards. Not only have we made a name for ourselves on a local standing but have earned degrees of success on an international level. The NASA Ames Space Settlement Competition has been a source of achievement for the society, having won an Honorable Mention in the 2019-2020 term and the Second Prize in 2020-2021. Moreover, we brought home the Runners Up award from the Future Space Scholars Meet, an international event taking place in Beijing, China in 2019. We have had numerous rankings in international mathematics events, namely International Youth Math Challenge (IYMC) and Waterloo Mathematics, earning distinctions and medals alike. However, one of the society’s most prominent achievements includes hosting the most successful edition of its inter-school event, Scimatics II, in November 2019. These achievements, and more, eventually led the society to earning the coveted Society of the Year award in the previous academic term.
In order to maintain the society’s legacy, the vision includes improved integration of its students. Active communication among members and society representatives, as well as providing a common collecting area for provision of unique ideas, is a primary goal for this term. Furthermore, we aim to expand our international outreach, focusing on sending students to competitions external to our local circuit. We have high hopes for the society in this upcoming term!
