Public Speaking
English Debates
The English Debating Society has remained a prestigious society at 55-Main throughout the years. Our debaters go on to achieve great things beyond their school years and continue to represent the spirit of 55. For all those who are a part of the society, the debating experience makes them adept at skills like logical argumentation and public speaking. Our members gain vast knowledge on various topics including politics, economics, technology, philosophy and social issues. Debating sessions are carried out regularly throughout the year and we are always open to new students who want to join the experience.
Our teams participate in national and international tournaments, taking on all opportunities presented, including attending tournaments virtually. In recent years, our teams have reached 4 semi-finals at in-station tournaments including the All-Pakistan National Tournament of 2019 where Hubba Shahzad won Best Speaker. For British Parliamentary tournaments, Alja Imam and Zahra Hussain were runners-up at the National Grammar School Debating Championship, Zara Riaz and Alina Attiq reached the finals of LUMS IV and Shezreen Shah and Fajar Amjad were runners-up at the Shahjiwana Cup. At BLKC, Hubba Shahzad won Best Speaker and Zahra Hussain ranked 7th. Our teams have won the Sicas Debating Tournament, the ICAS Debating Tournament and the Grammasters Debating Championship. Our debaters, including Wisha Jamal, Natasha Jalal, Hubba Shahzad, Zara Riaz, Shezreen Shah, and Alina Attiq have been shortlisted for Pakistan Camp. We are immensely proud of all our members and look forward to many more successful years ahead!
