Education Advising
The Education Advising Office at LGS 55 Main aims to guide and support students as they make the transition from school to college and university. The Education Advising Office is staffed by one senior advisor and an additional three advisors.
We begin to involve and advise our students and parents as early as Class 8 on possible subject choices and the consequences of their choices for their future goals. Our objective at this stage is to try and keep options open for students.
Students at age fourteen rarely know what they want to do in life and we feel that our intervention at this stage is vital to secure all possible future career options for our students. Later, at the A Level stage, the Education Advising Office becomes more actively engaged with individual students. All students are assigned an advisor who helps them with the entire college application process, and the journey from A Levels to university.
At this point, we urge our students to think of this as an extended research project. Our goal is to provide students and parents with the advice and information they need as they navigate this process. Students should think of applying to universities which will foster intellectual stimulation and growth; where they will be encouraged to think for themselves and be able to develop and grow into the role they want to play in the larger world.
We encourage students at O and A Levels to study Literature, History and Global Perspectives. This ensures that they become adults with well-developed critical thinking skills, which are necessary for a successful college education and subsequently any profession they choose for their respective futures.
Navigating the college application process is just as important as the final destination. We are confident that our students will develop and hone skills in organisation, communication, and research through this experience.

TESTIMONIALS

A Level Class of 2025
University of Oxford-Class of 2028
When I think about my time at 55 Main, I don’t immediately recall a single defining moment—instead, it’s a series of small, consistent experiences that have shaped me. The quiet encouragement from teachers, the casual check-ins that turned into deep conversations, the way opportunities were offered without hesitation—all of these built an environment where I felt seen and supported. Whether it was the reassurance of a teacher who noticed when I was struggling, or the college advisors who guided me with patience and kindness through every confusing form and essay draft, there was always someone willing to help. More than anything, 55 Main gave me a multidimensional space to grow into myself. It never boxed me into one version of who I should be. I was allowed to try things, change my mind, get things wrong, and still keep going. This school has been my starting point, my launching pad, and in many ways, always my home.

A Level Class of 2025
NYU-Abu Dhabi-Class of 2029
From my earliest days at 55 Main, I was encouraged to follow my curiosity, whether through storytelling, scientific exploration, or an endless stream of questions.
The school embraced my interdisciplinary interests, supported my bold switch from Computer Science to Literature, and stood by me through every unconventional choice. I realized how deeply 55 Main had shaped me—not just academically, but as someone unafraid to be both ambitious and authentic. Starting at NYU- Abu Dhabi in the fall, I know I’ll carry 55 Main with me always—as the place that believed in all the versions of who I could become.

A Level Class of 2025
Duke Kunshan University – Class of 2029
Coming into 55 as a new student in the A-level program, I was nervous about adapting, connecting with the staff and finding support from my advisors. But from the start, the Advising team provided the guidance I needed especially through stressful moments like managing over 20 applications. At 55 what stood out most was how genuinely vested they were in my growth, not just with logistics but also with understanding my goals and fears. Their dedication has made a lasting impact on my journey, and I’m incredibly grateful for the kindness and support they offered every step of the way.

A Level Class of 2025
Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) – Qatar – Class of 2029
After 13 unforgettable years at 55 Main, I’ve come to realize that the journey truly does matter more than the destination. From discovering my voice through art and leadership roles to learning that my worth goes beyond academics, this school shaped me into someone confident, creative, and grounded in values like honesty and integrity. Whether through assemblies, advising sessions, or late-night prep, every moment helped me grow. As I prepare for college, I carry with me not just memories, but a deep gratitude for a place that helped me find my voice and become someone I’m proud of.
