Drama Society

55 Main’s Dramatics society centers the use of symbolism and abstractism to deconstruct the human existence and to display it using drama as a medium. Theatre is a powerful tool of expression, one that is boundless and free from any constraints. It helps you to get in touch with the very essence of your soul, to explore the world through multiple lenses. Through performing arts, we challenge our society’s deepest assumptions and stereotypes whilst preserving the artistic and cultural identity of Pakistan. The Dramatic society takes pride in striving to be different and promoting areas of the performing arts that are neglected in this part of the world.
We are one of the few drama societies in the country offering both practical and theoretical in-depth knowledge of all elements of theatre namely script writing, direction, acting and production. As well as covering a diverse range of genres and encouraging student input in all aspects of the various productions. We aspire to build upon the skills of the amateur thespians, through biweekly workshops and various skill-enhancing activities in the hopes that they will shape the future of the arts in Pakistan. The 55 Main Dramatics society focuses on providing students with comprehensive experience and knowledge on the art form as well as a homely environment as well where all members of the society are considered one big family.
Some of our recent productions include: “Shaytan”, a dark abstract play dealing with the philosophies of human behaviour , “Mirza” an inspirational revolutionary play protesting against the treatment of arts in this country during the Martial Law period, “Kholiya” a feminist musical play questioning the misogynist conduct of our society and “Abru-e-Khalq” our most recent large scale production focusing on an artistic sense of awakening through the medium of dance.
The Dramatic society participates in multiple inter-school competitions over the academic year. These competitions serve as a great way to encourage students to be innovative and express themselves openly and the many awards received stand as a testimony to our members’ success. From inter-school events such as Artography hosted by LGS JT and Artfest hosted by Aitchison College to national level olympiads such as LUMS Dramafest and FC Magna hosted by FC College – these are a few competitions where every year the society has a precedent of winning awards like Best Play, Best Actress, Best Supporting Actress, Best Production and Best Script. One of the society’s best participation is seen at Grammathon hosted by LGS 1A1, bagging the Best Play award for 3 years in a row now. We look forward to welcoming new passionate students on this artistic journey!

Music Society

The Music Society provides students a platform that helps them communicate creatively. Whether it is through stage performances or just a casual sing along during recess, music serves as a medium to express and inspire. By providing endless opportunities beyond the walls of 55 Main, the society helps one grow as an artist. It is due to the enthusiasm and hard work of our music society that we have achieved countless awards at various well-known performing art events. Besides this, the society hosts activities such as song-writing competitions, in order to explore the skills of expressing one’s feelings through poetry and rhythm.

Additionally,we hosted our first ever art event, Studio55, in 2018, which consisted of an exclusive music sub-category. This event allowed Eastern as well as Western musicians to showcase their talents. Other than this the society will be holding frequent sessions which will also include seminars with alumni and renowned musicians. Every individual is given a chance to explore their talent and develop their skills to their full capacity.
